Karuri Ward: Academic performance not very appealing

Children in Karuri Ward have close access to 14 primary schools 12 of which are within the Ward and 2 in neighboring Wards but which majority of their pupils come from Karuri.
Of the 14, 7 are private and 7 are public. All the private schools have been performing above average with a mean score of 301 and above.
However, in all the public schools, there has been very little to write about. The best performer among them
had a mean score of 228 in 2013.
The rest followed close behind with the worst among  them scoring 201.
Except for Thimbigua and King’othua who showed a rise from 2012 exam results, all the rest registered a drop in their 2013 performance.
All the 14 schools had a total of 669 candidates of which 143 were in private schools while the rest 526 were in public.
The table below shows a summary of the results for 3 years up to 2013 for the schools in Karuri ward.
The tally for year 2014 have not been received after the government banned ranking in school exams.

Efforts are being made to correct and improve the academic performance in the schools.
The Area Member of Parliament for Kiambaa Constituency Hon. Paul Koinange is in the process of rehabilitating all the schools whose learning enviroment has been badly dilapidated.
A number of meetings have been held involving the parents and teachers to try to identify the challenges that occasion the poor performance. However, a lot need to be done with the full involvement of the local community to try and sort out the sorry state of our children's education.
