Ngungugu road under construction |
However, for this future to be realized, a number of environmental, social and infrastructural factors must be put in place so as to attract investors and investments to the ward. Those that will create employment, boost income generation and uplift the living standards of Karuri people. The primary and most important of these factors are security and road infrastructure.
With the input from area residents, we prioritized the main ones which cut across adjoining villages from existing tarmac roads. Those selected for phase one include;
- Muthurwa road starting from the Banana-Ndenderu Junction,
passing through Muthurwa Girls all the way to the furthest corner of
Goldhandas.
Muigi road under rehabilitation - The central road in Ngungugu village through Orthodox Church to connect with the tarmac at Tiikaya on the Banana-Ndenderu road.
- King'othua road starting from Nderombura, passing through King'othua ACK and connecting with the tarmac at Ka-Njiku.
- Muigi road all the way from Banana to connect with the tarmac at Likoni and to extend through Gachorue village to Mother's Union plots.
- Karen road connecting both tarmac roads at Raini and Nduota in Kimuga village.
- Kirumbi road all the way to Kiambu road at Senior Chief Koinange Stage.
- Chief Gikonyo road to connect with Banana Kanunga road.
- Kiambaa Catholic road
starting from Senior chief Girls, past Kiambaa Council offices all the
way to
Grading of Mutara road in Muthurwa - Thimbigua Primary road connecting with Banana-Kanunga road.
- Lower Thimbigua road passing on the lower side of the Primary school.
- Gathiri road starting from Victory all round to emerge again at Ha-njoki on Banana Limuru road.
- Kiogora road starting from Posta offices, Karuri cemetery, Kiogora down to Mombasa.
- Kanjiku - Waruingi Gitogo road.
- Kambara road
- Kanyiri - David Kahiga road.
In order to achieve our goal of raising the status of our ward from traditional villages to Peri-urban estates, I have set guidelines on how all these roads will be structured.
- All the roads must have a width of at least 20ft all the way.
Residents have agreed to widen the narrow roads. - The roads must have drainage that leave enough space for the passage of 2 vehicles.
- Graveling must be made so as to ensure long lasting, by providing for adequate thickness and must be compacted to make the roads smooth.
Many of our village roads are too narrow from either encroachment or were initially marked as narrow paths some with less than 15ft in width. However, after holding a number of meetings with respective residents, all except a few have agreed we need to widen our roads. Those that have agreed and indeed offered their potions of land include Muthurwa and Ngungugu residents. Already their roads have been widened and are in the process of graveling as shown in the pictures below. Those that have not made a decision to widen their road include residents along Karen road in Kimuga village.
In the past 3 years, the following roads have been rehabilitated:
- Banana-Muigi-Likoni road in
Gachorue.
Local Kiambaa youths clearing up River Gichi - Kiambaa Catholic road
- Kirumbi-Kamiri road in Kiambaa.
- Nduta Kore-8 pipes interconnection.
- Thimbigua road in Thimbiga village.
